Lead Project Support Description:
As a Lead Project Support Volunteer, you’ll play a supportive role in our volunteer project spaces at our distribution center, including helping explain volunteer projects, answering questions, assisting with moving pallets of finished food, and performing other tasks when needed.
This is a great role for someone who enjoys working with others, comfortable with physical activity, and wants to use their Second Harvest volunteer expertise to support a positive volunteer experience.
What You'll Do:
- Be a resource for any questions and support when needed
- Act as a liaison between volunteers and staff, using a walkie talkie to communicate when needed
- Move pallets of food in and out of the room using a pallet jack, training provided
- Wrap completed pallets of food using stretch wrap
- Occasionally give a brief overview of the project to kick off the shift
- Assist with project clean-up, such as cardboard and waste disposal
- Help maintain an inclusive and welcoming environment
What We're Looking For:
- Friendly, patient, and comfortable with public speaking
- Currently a SHF volunteer with basic knowledge of the day-to-day volunteer operations- Successful placements would have at least 6 months of experience as a consistent SHF volunteer
- Experience using a manual and/or powered pallet jack, or willing to learn
- Volunteers will be expected to stand; walk; crouch; twist; reach with hands and arms; and lift between 20-30 pounds consistently throughout the shift
- Enjoys talking to people
- Familiarity with Second Harvest Foodbank and/or an interest in learning about our programs and operations.
Requirements:
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must be an approved Second Harvest volunteer
- Successful completion of a background check (required before service begins)
- Orientation and training must be completed prior to starting service
- Adherence to all workplace safety standards and procedures
Commitment:
- Minimum 6-month commitment
- Approximately 3 hours per week
- 1 shift/week – We will coordinate with you to schedule a regular weekly schedule, between the hours of 8:30 – 11:30 am or 12:30 – 3:30 pm
